5 ways to land softly within your beauty routine

It is 2025, a new year, a time for resolutions, a time to embrace the energy of beginnings, a time to step away from the bad and embrace the good.

A simple way to do this is to clean your beauty routine, adopting a softer, toxin free, way to care for yourself brings with it benefit for both your inner and outer being, it is also less impactful to the natural environment surrounding us

Here are five habits to take with you into the new year:

— level up your soap, be as pedantic about what you put on your skin as you are about what lays within it, the skin is an organ, it has a microbiome of its own and is the first point of contact to the outside world, keeping this external barrier happy and healthy by bathing in natural, toxin free, ingredients lays the foundation for optimal health.

— be considerate of how you hydrate, simply, if you are not filtering water, you become the filter, water contains things like heavy metals, pesticides and herbicides, chlorine, and microorganisms that add an extra burden to the body’s filtering systems, the kidneys, liver and bowels, by avoiding such things our gut and skin microbiomes are able to maintain their balance, allowing our natural detox pathways to run effectively

— it is time to leave behind synthetic fragrances and modern day deodorants, conventional deodorants are made up of aluminium compounds, parabens, and fragrances containing phthalates, all of which have a negative effect on the body, they also contain triclosan or micro plastics which are harmful to the natural environment surrounding us, sporting natural deodorant or fragrances reduce the cumulative effect toxins have on the body over time

— tending to your oral microbiome, yes; it really is time to floss, the mouth acts as the portal between our inner and outer worlds, it is comprised of bacteria just like our gut microbiome maintaining oral as well as systemic health, disruption of the oral microbiome leads to dysbiosis, allowing pathogens to manifest and cause disease, the easiest way to support the health of your beneficial flora is to promote cleanliness, brush your teeth twice daily, ensure you are reaching each tooth, floss daily to remove food from in-between your teeth.

— keep your clothes clean, we wash and wear clothes daily, they serve as an added protective barrier over our skin, our skin is soft, its an absorber, taking in what is placed on it, if we are washing our clothes in conventional laundry detergents, we are placing ourselves at risk of taking in sulphates, phosphates, petrochemicals, and synthetic fragrances, natural laundry detergents are free from these chemicals, they are softer for your skin and better suited for those with sensitive skin, they are also environmentally friendly and supportive of clothing fibres.

Adopting rituals to support a softer, toxin free 2025 doesn’t have to be a challenge, it’s about heroing movements that are better for your body and the planet, shifting one product for another, following a gentler mindset to ease into the new year
